San Diego Hospitals Meet California Heart Bypass Standards
Each of the 11 San Diego County hospitals that perform heart bypass surgery net the California State standards for the heart bypass surgery procedure in 2007 with risk death rates right near the state average of 2.35% according to a report issued this past week.
Two hospitals including the Sharp Memorial in San Diego were among five across the state that did not meet state expectations in a subcategory of patients who suffered a stroke after bypass surgery. The state average in this subcategory is about 1.33% that suffer a stroke within 72 hours of surgery. However Tri-City’s post operative stroke rate was 3.97% in 175 bypass patients. This report was over a two-year post operative time-frame from 2006 until 2007.
A San Diego massage specialist said that medical officials at each of the hospitals claimed the data is old and proper improvements have been made.
